our objectives

The Cinema Association Australasia continues to represent member’s interests in a variety of ways throughout the year, including:

  1. Represent and express the views and opinions of members within the Australian Cinema Industry on “whole of industry” issues.
  2. Engaging With Stakeholders – Working with Government & Media to highlight cinema’s critical contribution to cultural and society, emphasised recently when the Australian Bureau Of Statistics again highlighted that Cinema remains Australia’s preferred cultural activity.

our history

The Cinema Association Australasia (previously National Association Of Cinema Operators) was formed in March 2011 when members of the Queensland-based Motion Picture Exhibitors’ Association of Queensland voted to take its membership national, and to reflect the new status, also agreed to change the name to the National Association of Cinema Operators-Australasia. The Board now incorporates senior executive members from major national cinema operators, as well as independent operators, and from each state of Australia. Then Chairman, Peter Beattie AC, commented at the launch – “Industry associations such as this one, play a vital role in the system of government in this country, allowing governments to sound out initiatives and allowing an industry to have one voice in approaches to government.”

Australian International Movie Convention

CAA hosts the official annual Australian International Movie Convention, the largest movie convention of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
